Astrology is a term applied to the ancient and modern practice of studying the movements and the relative positions of the celestial bodies to predict significant events in your life.

  1. A

Ascendant - The Rising sign on the Eastern horizon in the first house of the horoscope. This house describes the personality, nature, and characteristics of the native.

Affliction - A term from traditional astrology used to describe adverse aspects, especially formed by malefic.

Aspect - Angles made by the planets in relation to each other in the Birth Chart.

Ayanamsa - The distance between the First point of Aries and the Vernal equinox point is known as Ayanamsa.

Bhava - House in your Birth Chart

Bhukti - Each Mahadasha is subdivided into planetary periods known as Bhukti.

Benefic - Favorable or positive aspect of a planet.

Cardinal - The movable signs are known as Cardinal signs. Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn are the Cardinal signs as per Vedic astrology system.

Conjunction - When two or more planets are posited in the same house, they conjunct each other. Conjunction is nothing but a combination of two or more planets in the native’s horoscope.

Combust - When a planet is too close to the sun, it is called a combust planet.

Cusp - The borderline that separates from zodiac from another in the Birth chart

Dasha - It is a term used to indicate the planetary period. The effects are produced according to the placement of the planets in the natal chart.

Dasamsa - The 10th divisional chart, which plays an important role in career astrology prediction.

Debilitation - A position of the planet where it is too weak to produce good results signified by it

Divisional chart - Charts that are derived from the birth chart and are used for deep analysis of the native’s life

Dispositor - The Ruler of the sign or house that is occupied by another sign or house.

Drekkana chart - This is the third divisional chart also known as D3 Chart. It represents the relationship between the native and their sibling/s.

Dwadamsha chart - This is the 12th divisional chart through which you can learn about your parents and grandparents.

Ecliptic - The apparent path of the Sun among the constellation in the course of a year

Elements - The 4 groups in which the moon signs are divided. Fire, Air, Water and Earth are the 4 elements in Astrology. The signs, which come under these elements, exhibit similar qualities as the element.

Equinox - The two points on the celestial sphere at which the ecliptic intercepts the celestial equator, on these points day and night are equal, when the apparent longitude of the Sun is Zero degree (Vernal equinox) or 180 degree (Autumn equinox)

Exalted - The position of planet where it is strong and powerful and is capable of producing beneficial results

Fixed Signs - Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius are the fixed signs, which are associated with stabilization, determination, depth, and persistence.

Hora - This is the second divisional chart, which is used for analyzing the wealth of native. It also represents time in Vedic astrology

House - This is 1/12th part of the horoscope

Karka - Signification of a planet

Kendra - The auspicious Houses of the Birth chart. First, Fouth, Seventh and Tenth houses are known as Kendra.

Krishna paksha - The dark lunar fortnight in Hindu calendar

Marka - Second and Seventh house of the horoscope. These in the astrological terms have a tendency to cause death or to affect the longevity of native

Malefic - Thev planet that brings negative or destructive results is known as malfic planet.

Mundane astrology - That branch of astrology that deals with world events and universal trends.

Moon Sign - Your moon sign reflects the position of the moon when you were born.

Native - The person who is associated with a specific birth chart.

Nakshatra - Constellations are called Nakshatra. These are 27 in number

Navamsha - It is the 9th divisional chart which is commonly used for predicting marriage in astrology

New Moon - The first phase of the New lunar cycle during which Moon aligns with the Sun.

Nodes - Rahu and Ketu are the Nodes where Rahu is North node and Ketu is South node.

Panchang - Panchang is the astrological daily calendar to determine muhurat, tithis, vrats etc.

Perigee - The point of the axis where the planet is closest to the Earth

Pitta - The Ayurvedic dosha ruled by the fire element

Prishtodaya - The signs that rise with their hind parts i.e. Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius, and Capricorn.

Shadvarga - It is the group of six division charts namely Hora, Drekkana, Navamsha Dwadamsha, Trimsamsa, and Navamsha chart.

Shirshodaya - The front-rising signs are shirshodaya signs. These are Gemini, Virgo, Leo, Libra, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

Shukla paksha - It is the Waxing Moon period.

Sidereal Zodiac - Sidereal Zodiac is also known as the fixed zodiac. It is located where these constellations are actually positioned

Retrograde - When planet a planet appears to be moving backward in the sky.

Rising Sign - Rising sign (also known as your ascendant) represents your physical body and outward style.

Transit - The ongoing movement of the planets in contrast to their position at the time of your birth or when some other important event occurred

Trik - The 6th 8th and 12th houses are most unfavorable houses in the natal chart, known as Trik houses.

Trikon/Trine - 1, 5, 9 houses in horoscope are trikon or trine houses, which are related to wealth.

Trimamsa - This is the 30th divisional chart, which is also known as D30. This is commonly used to analyze the major health issues or periods of misfortune in the native’s chart.

Upachaya - The 3rd, 6th,10th and 11th houses are Upchaya houses which means the House of growth.
