The Science Behind Astrological Remedies: More Than Faith, More Than Just a Ritual

Yatha Pinde Tatha BrahmandeAs is the microcosm, so is the macrocosm.

This ancient Vedic statement is commonly used by astrologers and carries an extraordinary implication. It tells us that the same forces that move the universe also move within the human body. The rhythms of planets, the cycles of nature, and the processes inside your mind and body are not separate systems; they are perfect reflections of one another.

If this statement is true - and both ancient philosophy and modern scientific observation increasingly suggest that it is, then the idea of astrological remedies suddenly begins to look very different.

Remedies is an over simplified and generalised term for various practices suggested in Vedic astrology to ease one’s life and promote quality living. They are not just random rituals but practices that inspire a shift of energy that works in your favour. They are attempts to restore harmony between the individual and the cosmic forces influencing them.

Yet the word remedy itself is often misunderstood!

Many people imagine remedies as simple religious acts like chanting a mantra, wearing a gemstone, donating something, or performing a ritual. But in reality, the word remedy in Vedic astrology is only a general umbrella term for a wide range of corrective practices.

At its core, a remedy simply means doing something consciously to shift energy and create balance in life. And balance, whether we speak in spiritual language or scientific language, is the foundation of our well-being and harmony.

Why Remedies Exist in the First Place

Astrology operates on a simple but profound idea: the planetary positions at the time of your birth, create a unique energetic pattern that influences your tendencies, experiences, and life cycles.

During specific planetary periods, known as dashas - some energies become more active than others. And, sometimes these energies support growth, and Sometimes they may create friction and obstacles in your life.

Remedies are suggested by an astrologer when the energy of a planet becomes excessive, blocked, or misaligned with our life circumstances. Instead of passively enduring those influences, remedies offer ways to handle them and engage with them consciously.

And interestingly, most traditional remedies work through mechanisms that modern science is gradually beginning to understand – things like vibration, psychology, physiology, behaviour, and energy resonance.

Mantras: The Science of Sound, Vibration and Chanting

One of the most commonly known remedies given in Vedic astrology is the chanting of mantras for special occasions and specific purposes. Mantras are usually dedicated to individual planets or deities that resonate with those planetary energies. But the deeper science behind mantras lies in sound frequencies.

In Vedic astrology, every planet has a special “bija mantra”, a seed sound whose vibrational frequency connects with that planetary energy. In my experience, when repeated rhythmically, these sounds create resonance in the body and the nervous system.

Modern research related to neuroscience and sound therapy has shown promising results stating that repetitive sound patterns can positively influence brainwave states, reduce stress hormones, and regulate breathing patterns. Chanting Mantras also stimulates your Vagus nerve, which has a close connection to emotional your stability and relaxation.

And not just this, Vedic Science goes even deeper. It has recognised the relationship between planetary energies with your bodily chakras, the subtle energy centres of the body. Each chakra connects with certain psychological and physiological functions. When a particular chakra becomes blocked, its condition is often reflected in planetary imbalance in your birth chart, therefore, special mantras are used to stimulate the dormant energies of that centre through the vibration of mantras.

I often suggest mantra chanting as both spiritual practice and vibrational therapy to those who need healing. It works simultaneously on your mind, body, and subtle energy system, creating a balance and promoting the free flow of prana through your entire bodily system.

Yantras: The Geometry of Consciousness

Another fascinating remedy I commonly use in Vedic astrology are the Yantras. Yantras are basically geometric diagrams drawn with specific proportions and patterns designed to represent and stimulate a particular cosmic energy.

At first glance, you may feel that they look like simple artistic designs. But their structure is far from arbitrary. Interestingly, the human brain responds strongly to patterns and symmetry. This is why sacred geometry found in temples, mandalas, and yantras are specially designed to influences concentration and mental clarity.

Yantras are essentially visual meditation tools. If you regularly focuses on a yantra, it directs your mind toward a specific intention or energetic alignment. For example, the Lakshmi Yantra is associated with wealth and prosperity. Its geometric design is meant to stimulate your psychological and energetic patterns associated with attracting abundance and manifesting of your desires.

Also, I would advise that these yantras are energized through mantras, combining both visual and auditory stimuli. Because When mantra (sound) and yantra (form) work together, they create a multi-sensory impact on the mind reinforcing both belief and focus. And in psychology, focused intention is known to deeply influence your behaviour and decision-making.

In this way, yantras work magically for you both subconsciously and symbolically.

Worship of Deities: Psychology, Inspiration, and Archetypal Energy

In Vedic astrology and Sanatan Dharma, certain deities are traditionally associated with specific planets. If you are approaching this purely from a religious perspective, deity worship to you may seem like devotion alone. But even from a psychological standpoint, it carries profound meaning.

Human beings are deeply influenced by archetypes - The symbolic representations of qualities we admire. When someone worships a deity, they are not just performing rituals. They are actually internalizing the values and morals represented by that deity.

Let’s Take the example of Lord Hanuman, often associated with the planet Mars. Mars governs courage, willpower, physical strength, and determination. These qualities are embodied perfectly in the life stories of Hanuman - his devotion, discipline, and extraordinary strength showcase the most positive side of planet Mars that it portrays during its exaltation. By worshiping Lord Hanuman, a person gradually absorbs and manifests those qualities into their own personality.

Similarly, Goddess Lakshmi is associated with Venus. Venus represents beauty, wealth, relationships, harmony, and comfort. Ma Lakshmi is known as the goddess of prosperity and abundance, but interestingly, traditional texts also say that she resides in places that are clean, organized, and harmonious. These are precisely the lifestyle traits that strengthen positive Venus energy.

So, when someone worships Goddess Lakshmi, they subconsciously cultivate habits like cleanliness, grace, gratitude, and generosity - all the traits which improve the Venusian energy in their life.

In this sense, deity worship becomes a psychological alignment with planetary archetypes.

Gemstones and Crystals: The Science of Light and Resonance

Perhaps the most famous astrological remedy involves suggesting of Gemstones by the astrologers in order to strengthen the positively placed planets in the chart that are capable yet not strong enough to deliver an extraordinary positive result.

Each of the 9 Main planets in Vedic Astrology are associated with a specific gemstone:

  • Ruby for the Sun
  • Pearl for the Moon
  • Emerald for Mercury
  • Diamond for Venus
  • Blue Sapphire for Saturn
  • Red Coral for Mars
  • Yellow Saphire for Jupiter
  • Hessonite for Rahu
  • Cat’s Eye for Ketu

The Scientific reasoning behind wearing gemstones for remedies lies primarily in wavelength of Light when it passes through it. Every gemstone reflects and refracts light in a particular way due to its colour and crystalline structure. According to physics, different colours correspond to specific wavelengths of light.

Astrological tradition suggests that gemstones matching the colour frequency of a planet can amplify its energies. For example, a ruby’s deep red colour corresponds symbolically with the Sun’s vitality and authority.

But gemstones are not merely decorative minerals. They are formed under extreme pressure and heat deep within the Earth’s crust, giving them a highly stable crystalline structure. And guess what - Crystals are known in physics to store and transmit energy. This is why quartz crystals are used in watches, electronics, and communication devices.

Similarly, astrologers believe gemstones act as energy conductors, strengthening the influence of the planets they represent.

However, gemstones must be chosen carefully. If a gemstone strengthens a planet that is already problematic in a chart, it may amplify challenges rather than reduce them. Therefore, gemstones should always be worn under professional guidance.

Crystals: A Softer Energetic Alternative

Crystals function in a similar way to gemstones but generally carry softer and more diffused energy. Commonly known crystals like amethyst, rose quartz, jade, obsidian, and pyrite are widely used for emotional healing and energy balance.

While gemstones directly amplify planetary frequencies, crystals tend to work more gently in a subtle manner on the emotional and psychological levels of a person. Because of this, they are often considered safer for general use and can even be worn without expert advice without the fear of overstimulating malefic planetary energies.

Unlike Gemstones, most crystals usually only have a positive influence on a person’s life irrespective of which planet it is connected to, making them more affordable as well as safe for use, but the energy they carry is much lower in frequency as compared to original Gemstones, However, they still can be very affective.

Rudraksha: The Sacred Beaded Tears of Lord Shiva

Another powerful remedy that I often suggest people is wearing special beads called Rudraksha. The word “Rudraksha” itself means “the tears of Rudra (Lord Shiva)”. According to many ancient scriptures, it is said that these sacred beads were formed when Lord Shiva opened his eyes after a long and deep meditation after which his tears fell on the Earth from which beads of Rudraksha were formed. Due to this, Rudraksha has always been associated with Lord Shiva and is believed to carry his protective and stabilizing energy.

Beyond mythology, Rudraksha also has an interesting scientific perspective. These beads possess natural electromagnetic and bioelectric properties that can influence your nervous system and body’s energy field. When these beads are worn close to the skin, they are believed to help calm your mind, regulate your stress levels, and stabilize your heart rhythm, which is why many yogis and spiritual practitioners have worn them since centuries.

In astrology, different Rudraksha beads often identified by the number of natural lines that form on their surface, called mukhis – Different Mukhi Rudrakshas correspond to different planetary energies. For example, 1 Mukhi Rudraksha is associated with the Sun and increases your leadership qualities and authority, 2 Mukhi resonates with the energy of the Moon and restores emotional balance in your life etc.

Just like you choose your gemstones carefully, Rudraksha beads should ideally be chosen with proper guidance of an experienced astrologer, because each bead carries a specific energy that works best when aligned with the planetary positions in your birth chart.

Daan: The Psychological and Physiological Science of Giving

Among all remedies, daan - charitable giving is perhaps the most universally recommended and accepted. Astrologically speaking, daan involves giving away items associated with particular planets that care causing trouble during their dasha periods.

But its deeper impact is both psychological and physiological. In my opinion, when someone gives selflessly, it produces a powerful shift in their emotional state. Your Acts of generosity are known to increase the release of dopamine and oxytocin, in your body – the chemicals associated with happiness, trust, and social bonding.

At the same time, charitable acts help reduce your built up stress, guilt, and emotional heaviness due to your past experiences. Your Stress level is directly linked to your physical condition - affecting your heart, digestive system, and immune function.

Therefore, you must understand that by reducing your mental burden and promoting emotional positivity, daan indirectly improves both mental and physical health. This is why giving quietly, without seeking recognition, is emphasized.

The goal of Daan is not social credit as per our Vedas and Vedic Astrology, It is inner lightness, soul satisfaction and release of karmic debts.

Connection between Astrology and Ayurveda

I have seen that one of the most fascinating connections lies between astrology and Ayurveda.

Ayurveda describes that there are three fundamental energies in your body:

  • Vata (movement and air)
  • Pitta (heat and transformation)
  • Kapha (stability and water)

In Astrological tradition, we often associate planetary influences with these three doshas in your body.

For example:

  • The affliction of Saturn, Mercury and Rahu tend to aggravate Vata Dosha in your body, leading to anxiety, dryness, and nervous tension.
  • The affliction of Sun, Ketu and Mars intensify Pitta Dosha in your body, producing heat, irritability, or inflammation.
  • The affliction of Moon, Venus and Jupiter may increase Kapha Dosha in your body, causing lethargy or emotional heaviness.

When unfavourable planetary periods are activated in your chart, these tendencies may increase, and ayurvedic practices and medicine may help restore equilibrium of your body as well as in your life.

Thus, I would say - both Astrology and Ayurveda operate as complementary sciences of restoring balance in your life.

A Surprising Truth About Remedies

Perhaps the most surprising thing about remedies is that their power does not lie in superstition, it lies in alignment!

Mantras align vibration.

Yantras align attention.
Gemstones align light frequencies.
Deity worship aligns psychology.
Daan aligns emotion and karma.

Each remedy works through a different mechanism — but all aim toward the same goal:

Creating balance between the individual and the forces shaping their life.

Conclusion: The Future of Remedies

Astrological remedies are often dismissed by many of the people I know, as myths, these are the people who see them only on the surface. But when you look more closely, with a positive mindset and in the spirit of acceptance, you will discover that many of these practices interact with commonly known scientific principles such as sound vibration, psychological conditioning, light frequencies, behavioural changes, and physiological responses. They operate simultaneously on multiple layers of human experience, weather we notice it or not.

In the end, Remedies are not about controlling the universe. They are about learning how to cooperate with it.

And perhaps that is what the ancient sages meant when they declared:

The universe outside and the universe within are reflections of the same cosmic order.

When we restore harmony within ourselves, we begin to experience harmony in the world around us.

And that, ultimately, is the true science behind remedies!
